SABC News Bafana Twitter 3 - Continuity will be key for the Bafana new coach – Jordaan

The South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan is hoping that the next council meeting on the last day of this month could be where they ratify the name of the new Bafana Bafana head coach.

It’s been two weeks now since Stuart Baxter resigned as the Bafana Bafana coach following the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) where they went out in the quarterfinals.

But the wait for the replacement could be longer because SAFA has got a tendency to prolong these coach searches’. Jordaan says if the new coach is contracted somewhere, it could take a bit longer to get him.

There’s been a trend at the recent AFCON tournament where the African coaches took their rightful place and showed the African football leaders that they do better than their foreign counterparts.

The SAFA Technical Committee is said to be favoring the appointment of a local coach but Jordaan who is known for being pro foreign coaches, is talking about having a mix.

With the national men’s U17 and U20 teams having been to three FIFA World Cups in the last four years and the U23 also at the Olympics, South Africa is not short of talent for Bafana but needs a brave coach.

And Jordaan says continuity is going to be key under the new coach.

Baxter missed an opportunity to transform Bafana, his squad at the AFCON was the second oldest squad after Madagascar after he opted to leave some of the SA U23 players behind.

Jordaan says they have to quickly catch up on the continuity plan. – Report by Velile Mnyandu
