Though still in with the slightest of chances to clinch the league, a 10-man Bidvest Wits thumped Baroka FC 3-1 at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday in the penultimate round of Absa Premiership matches.

Lehlohonolo Majoro, Cole Alexander and Robyn Johannes netted for The Clever Boys while Tshediso Patjie scored Baroka’s only goal.

Majoro was sacrificed when goalkeeper Ricardo Goss received his marching orders on the stroke of half time following a late tackle on Mdantsane, with Darren Keet coming on in place of Majoro.

Wits Coach Gavin Hunt shares his thoughts on a win that may as well have sealed Wits’ possible third place finish and participation in CAF’s Confederation Cup next season.

The result sees Wits remain in third position on the log, two points behind second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns who have played a game less and three points behind leaders Orlando Pirates.

Wits’ faint hopes now rests on seeing the duo losing their remaining matches while they win theirs against Golden Arrows away, something Hunt admits will take a miracle.

The loss comes at a worse time for Baroka who desperately needed the three points going to their last match against fellow strugglers Maritzburg United.

With 28 points, Baroka are not safe from straight relegation as bottom placed Maritzburg can still reach 29 points if they win against them in Polokwane on Saturday and other results in matches involving Free State Stars, Black Leopards and Chippa United go against them.

Bakgaga Coach Wedson Nyirenda says he is disappointed with his charges.

No stranger to South African football having turned out for Kaizer Chiefs in the early 90’s, Nyirenda says his first season as a PSL Coach has been an extremely testing one.

The Zambian kicked off his campaign by clinching the Telkom Knockout trophy but has found himself fighting off the relegation axe for the better part of the season, but remains confident he will avoid the chop. Reports by Tumi Gabonamong
