Twenty-one people have been arrested for looting in Samora Machel in Philippi on the Cape Flats. Violence erupted when a group of people looted a well-known grocery shop and several smaller ones on Sunday morning.
A woman was killed during the looting.
“Our members reacted swiftly to the situation, and arrested 21 people for looting. One fatality has been reported and the circumstances surrounding the female victim’s death are being investigated, as well as the public violence. Once charged, the suspects are due to make their court appearance in Athlone. Our members will remain on high alert in the area and monitor the situation to prevent any flare-up of violence,” says Police Spokesperson, Andre Traut.
