SABC News WHD Reuters - UN calls on primary health care investments as World Health Day observed

Sunday marks World Health Day and the United Nations (UN) has called on governments around the globe to invest more in primary health care for mothers and babies.

The UN says health is a human right and world leaders must ensure affordable life-saving services to rural communities and provide more sophisticated services at hospitals.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has echoed this call with its Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, saying half the world’s population cannot access essential health services and millions suffer & die because they cannot get treatment for HIV, TB, and malaria.

The WHO says investing in stronger health systems can help to prevent or mitigate outbreaks and health emergencies.
